So, I was digging through my old notes from Psychology class and came upon something my AP Psych teacher shared with us. Whether you believe in the validity of the study of psychology or not, everyone (or almost) enjoys being surrounded by good scents.
Anyway, according to my teacher, certain scents have different effects on a person, kind of like how different colors affect moods. For example:
| Result | Suggested Scents |
| Reduce Error | Lemon, Peppermint, Mint |
| Boost Productivity | Lily-of-the-Valley, Jasmine, Floral Scents, Lavender |
| Reduce Stress | Spiced Apple, Rose, Chamomile, Jasmine |
| Reduce Anxiety | Vanilla, Neroli, Lavender |
| Relaxation | Basil, Citrus, Cinnamon |
| Energize | Peppermint, Thyme, Rosemary |
I'm not quite sure how legit this is, but that's what I wrote down, and definitely like the idea. Chances are you'll probably find these scents at the Bath & Body Works. Chances are you'll also find them at Yankee Candle. I, for one, am a great fan of candles, and these scents are on my winter holidays' list. Hey, if these scents increase productivity and reduce stress, why not?
Try it out. Next time you need to chill, light a cinnamon-scented candle or place some cinnamon sticks around the house. Need to get to work? Place some lavendar petals in a tray on your desk.
If this aroma therapy-like stuff doesn't work, well hey.. at least the place will smell wonderful!
